Mindful Moments: Butterfly Breaths Exercise

We love pairing mindful movement with our imaginations! The Butterfly Breaths exercise provides a great stretch that also helps to relieve tension and improve circulation, all while transporting us to a new and beautiful place in a matter of minutes.

Here’s how it works:
🦋 Take a comfortable seat, bringing your feet together so that your toes and soles of your feet are touching.
🦋 Notice how this posture feels.
🦋 Take a few slow and deep breaths, then begin to move your knees up and down as if you’re flapping your butterfly wings. 
Variation: If it feels better to make your butterfly wings using your arms, go ahead and do so – find what feels good to you in this moment!
🦋 Visualize the color of your wings.
🦋 As you flap your wings, imagine you are flying through a garden. What do you see? What do you smell? What do you hear? What do you feel?
🦋 Let's slow down and come to rest. Take a few more slow, deep breaths to close out the practice.
